Best for photo-realistic, full colour results for 1 t-shirt or 100.
Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing begins with design preparation, where the design is created or finalized using graphic design software. The file should be high-resolution (300 DPI) and in a compatible format like PNG with a transparent background. Colors are optimized for print, and the design is resized to fit the garment specifications.
The garment is prepared by applying a pre-treatment solution, which enhances ink absorption and durability, especially for cotton or cotton-blend fabrics. The fabric is then dried using a heat press to set the pre-treatment and create a smooth, flat surface for printing.
The prepared garment is loaded onto the printer’s platen, carefully aligned to avoid wrinkles. A DTG printer applies the design directly to the fabric using water-based inks for vibrant, accurate results. For darker garments, a white ink base layer is printed first before adding colors.
The printed garment is cured using a heat press or conveyor dryer. This step ensures the ink bonds with the fabric, improving durability and washability, resulting in a high-quality finished product.

You want to make sure your file is at least 300dpi with transparency at the desired print size for the best possible print result.

This filter will only show images large enough for us to print.
For screen printing and embroidery, .png or .eps. For direct to film, .jpg .png .gif or .tiff. For direct to garment, a 300 DPI PNG with a transparent background works best.
Screen printing can — inks are mixed to your reference. Embroidery cannot match Pantone exactly, as thread colours are selected from a fixed range.
It depends on the method. Screen printing and embroidery both require 20 units. Direct to film and direct to garment have no minimum, so a single item is fine.
Yes — there is a Bring Your Own option across most garment types. Get in touch first so we can confirm the fabric suits the method you want.
No. We do not proof or correct customer artwork, which is part of how we keep prices down. Check spelling, sizing and resolution carefully before you order, and email sales@thetshirtmill.com.au first if you want an artwork quote for changes like background removal.
Placement and print size can vary by up to 2cm, and garment measurements by up to 2.5cm. Variation within that range is normal rather than a fault. If you need a specific placement, say so when you order — otherwise we apply standard industry positioning.
