How To Make Your Artwork Into A T-Shirt

How To Make Your Artwork Into A T-Shirt

Here at The Tshirt Mill, we’re committed to helping you showcase your individuality and creativity. Today, artists aren’t restricted to galleries and the sides of buildings when it comes to displaying their works. With state-of-the-art printing processes, you can now easily turn your artwork into a personalised T-shirt.

How do you go about creating a custom T-shirt? It’s actually really simple and only takes six steps. Here’s how you do it.

Creating & Ordering Your Custom T-Shirt

1. Choose your style of T-shirt

What’s the number one rule to creating a great personalised T-shirt? Choose a style and quality that people will actually want to wear. That’s why we offer a huge range of T-shirt styles made from high-quality materials. Because the last thing you want is your artwork on an uncomfortable T-shirt that sits in someone’s closet until the end of time (or the next garage sale).

You can browse our various styles online here. Choose from classic crew neck, V neck and ringer tees, polos, tank tops, raglans and long sleeves. There are options for men, women and children, along with hoodies and sweats.

2. Choose your colour of T-shirt

Sometimes white and black just don’t cut it for complementing your artwork. A wider range of colours gives you even more options for creating the ideal personalised T-shirt. Depending on the style of T-shirt you’ve selected, you can choose from up to 15 different colours and colour combinations. You can play around with colours and upload your artwork to create mock-ups that clearly show you which ones are working.

3. Choose your size of T-shirt

When it comes to T-shirts, one size does not fit all. Limiting your T-shirt production to a few sizes also limits how many people can realistically wear your artwork. We have a great range of T-shirt sizes to suit all shapes and builds, starting from XXS and maxing out at 5XL.

4. Upload your artwork

Now we’re getting to the really important steps. When you upload your design, we recommend a minimum DPI of 200 and using a PNG file for optimal results. However, you can also use a JPG or GIF file if necessary. It’s also possible to import images straight from your Instagram and Facebook accounts.

5. Choose your printing process

Once you’re happy with the design of your custom T-shirt, it’s time to decide how you want it printed. DTG printing is ideal for smaller orders as there’s no minimum amount required. This process involves printing specially formulated ink directly onto the T-shirt and results in a softer feel compared to traditional screen printing.

We also offer alternative printing processes for bulk orders. These include sublimation, which involves printing onto a special sheet of paper before transferring it to the T-shirt. Also known as ‘supasub’, it’s the ideal blend of detail, vibrancy and quality. You can also opt for embroidery if you want longevity and a high-quality finish. Supacolour printing is another option. It utilises the latest digital technology to perfectly reproduce your artwork without sacrificing detail or colour.

Many of these options, including the classic screen printing process, require a minimum of 20 units per design.

6. Check the placement of your artwork on the garment and submit

Once you’ve uploaded and selected your artwork, our online creator will give you a preview of your personalised T-shirt. You’ll be able to reposition and resize your artwork on the preview (just keep an eye on the quality bar on the left). Certain T-shirts also let you customise the sleeves and back.

When you’re happy with it, simply click the BUY button in the top right to begin the checkout process and order your T-shirts.
